Former Players of Resigned Coach, Pat Johnson, Share Their Support

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — On Wednesday, school administrators with Coach Pat Johnson to inform him that an internal investigation was being opened based on concerns made by student-athletes from the West Fargo United girls hockey team. Johnson then submitted his letter of resignation from both his hockey and softball coaching positions.

Johnson began his teaching career in 1991, leading the softball teams to 20 consecutive fastpitch softball titles and nine Class A softball championships.

“Pat wasn’t just a coach, he was a teacher. Through every drill, every practice, and every challenge, Pat instilled in us the values of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. He taught us that success isn’t just about talent, but putting in the effort day after day.”

25 former players and students signed a letter in support for Johnson. Nine of the former students provided written statements.

“His belief in us has inspired a belief in ourselves, empowering us to pursue our dreams with determination and courage. Without his influence, I wouldn’t be standing where I am today, ready to face the world with confidence and purpose.”

We contacted Johnson for a comment. Johnson said in a text message “Sorry. I can’t talk right now.”

Johnson is still employed as a teacher at West Fargo Public Schools.
