New Bill Would Require North Dakota Schools To Teach About The Holocaust

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — Lawmakers were presented a bill to require all schools in North Dakota to teach the history of the Holocaust.

Currently, it is up to a teacher’s discretion.

The bill’s focus would make the teachings grade-level appropriate.

It would also include the causes, history, impact, and how the United States played a role.

Several teachers shared their support for the bill from their own personal teaching experience.

“I would imagine to the reason to just make sure that the standard is in there to make sure that it’s never missed. You know we talk about there’s places that there are people that question whether or not the Holocaust ever happened. Gosh that would be a shame to ever think that would people think that it never happened,” said Aimee Copas, North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders.

If the bill passes, superintendents would have to report to a government official on how they will implement the teaching in the curriculum.
