North Dakota Resolution declaring pornography a public health hazard gets Do-Pass recommendation

BISMARCK, N.D. — A senate resolution in North Dakota would declare pornography as a public health hazard.

Testimony was heard during a legislative hearing on SCR 4017.

Those who testified in support of the resolution consisted of members of religious organizations.

Some of the reasons cited for declaring porn a public health hazard were that it creates an unreasonable body image, connections to human trafficking, and the possibility of addiction.

“This resolution seeks to recognize that pornography is a serious public health and moral issue in our society and should be dealt with accordingly. We believe human sexuality was designed and intended for our good, within the bond of a committed, life-long marriage between a man and a woman,” said Mark Jorritsma, executive director of the North Dakota Family Alliance Legislative Action.

There was no testimony in opposition to the resolution.

The committee gave the resolution a unanimous Do-Pass recommendation.
