Kindred’s Peraza blazes own path out of brother’s shadow
KINDRED (KVRR) – Presley Peraza is a senior at Kindred High School, excelling at basketball and track & field for the Vikings. Thanks to his efforts, he will be playing both sports on the college level after committing to the Minot State Beavers.
“Definitely took a lot of work to get there. Been a lot of ups and downs. I just had to keep my head on straight and keep going. Two sports is going to be a grind but I’ve never shied away from hard work.” said Peraza.
Alongside Presley has been his family. Both mom and dad have seen their son grow over the years, becoming a superstar in Kindred. Being in the stands, taking him to practice and being there for him has helped Peraza prepare for his next chapter in his career.
“It’s inspiring and to me it’s just encouraging and it’s been fun to be his mom and see him put the work in behind the scenes that a lot of kids his age aren’t necessarily always doing.” said Pattie Peraza, Presley’s mom.
“Presely is the kind of kid that will always give you 110%. He will call me to stay after with him after practices just so he can get in some shooting forms. He’ll stay an extra half hour. I’ve always told him. If you want to be better than the next guy you got to put in twice the work.” said Ozzie Peraza, Presley’s dad.
They also pointed out that Presley overcame the shadow of his older brother, Jaiden. Jaiden was dominant on the high school level and has been successful in college. But that didn’t phase Presley, who blazed his own path with the Kindred Vikings and then to the Minot State Beavers.
“My brother and I have always had a sibling rivalry going. And now that rivalry is going to take the next step in college. I’m excited for that. With his achievements I’ve always been there supporting him and with my achievements he’s always been there supporting me.” said Peraza.
From a small town kid making big waves across the state, Peraza is ready for the next chapter in his life at Minot State.
