Fargo Park District Recommends Lowering Increase To Season Pool Pass
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — After a staggering response from the public on this year’s pool pass increases, staff decided they needed to reexamine their budget.
“We did have a pretty lengthy discussion this morning and dove a little deeper into the numbers and the decisions made and staff is recommending a sort of a change in the adjustment in the numbers. And we’re listening and we’re going to make a change,” said Aaron Hill, Fargo Park Board President.
The proposed new fees would bring down the initial proposed hike.
There was going to be an increase for the family season opool pass fee to $500 for the five pools.
Now, it’s down to $350.
“For the last two years we did not have Island Park pool, so this year we will so now people can get the five for one. All five pools in Fargo for $350 would be the plan, and again it needs to be approved at the board meeting in March, so it’s not official until then,” said Hill.
Low-income families also have a chance to apply for a scholarship under certain qualifications. Scholarships at the park district do not have a limit to the amount given out per year.
They’re available for both youth and adults.
“Anyone who qualifies whether you’re a Fargo resident and you qualify under the SNAP benefits you will get a pool pass,” said Zoë Absey – Fargo Park Board Commissioner.
“We want to make sure that there’s opportunities for everybody to use that pool. So I think sensitivity to those types of concerns as well making sure we’re telling people this is what’s available for everybody,” said Hill.
If the fees are changed it will be the the highest price increase in the past five years.
