‘Oldest man in North Dakota’ dies at 108

FARGO (KVRR-KFGO) – The oldest man in North Dakota has died at 108 years old.
Frederick Quam was born in Fargo on Oct. 2, 1916. He enlisted in the air force in 1941, and later joined the North Dakota Air National Guard where he served as an aircraft mechanic.
Quam retired from the military in 1976.
In 2002, the library he started at the Fargo Air Museum was named in his honor. Quam volunteered for a number of organizations over the years, and received several awards, including Federal Civil Servant of the Year in 1958.
Quam was preceded in death by his wife, Lois and daughter Jane. He is survived by his daughter Jean and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
