Gov. Armstrong declares statewide fire emergency for North Dakota

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — Governor Kelly Armstrong signed an executive order declaring a statewide fire emergency and activating the State Emergency Operations Plans.
Above average temperatures and below average precipitation amounts have led to drought conditions and increased the risk of wildfires.
Armstrong, a volunteer firefighter, said, “North Dakotans endured some of the largest, deadliest and most destructive wildfires in recent memory last year, and the actions being taken now will ensure we are fully prepared for another intense wildfire season.”
The declaration means that all state agencies, including North Dakota Department of Emergency Services, North Dakota Forest Service and North Dakota National Guard, must all be on standby.
This is in effect until May 31, unless it gets extended.
