Safe Kids Fargo-Moorhead urges drivers to hit brakes on distracted driving

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and Sanford Health is buckling down on distracted parents by teaching good driving habits.

Kayla Johnson from Safe Kids Fargo-Moorhead says driving distractions can come from more than your phone. They can include; talking, using touch navigation, or even loose items in the vehicle.

Johnson also stresses that while you may not be distracted, other drivers on the road might be.

“We want to try to do what we can ourselves to protect ourselves and others from distracted driving. But also even if you’re doing all your due diligence to make sure you’re not distracted as a driver, others can be distracted on the road too. So just being very vigilant and aware of your surroundings, wearing your seatbelt and encouraging teenagers to use that same practice of wearing a seatbelt is very helpful,” Johnson said.

Johnson also suggests that drivers limit distractions by doing things like properly securing car seats, wearing seatbelts, and being vigilant behind the wheel.
