Update: Fire heavily damages Fargo apartment building

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — It was an abrupt morning for tenants located at the 3315 Broadway North Apartment building as a structure fire from within the building had residents evacuated.

“Crews stretched lines and got a quick attack on the fire. The fire was contained pretty much in the one room. Some fire did come up on the outside of the building, but most of the fire was contained to the apartment that it started in,” said Brad Besette, Fargo Battalion Chief.

The Fargo Fire Department responded to the call around 6:19 this morning. Arriving at the scene with multiple engine companies, ladder trucks and command staff. The American Red Cross had also been notified to assist the people impacted.

“Crews used a significant amount of water to put the fire out to make sure it was fully extinguished. So we do have water damage in the room below. Which we’re working with management of the building to take care of. We shut power off of the unit and the Red Cross is working to find a place for them,” said Besette.

Residents on the opposite side of the building were able to return to their residences. Both apartments on the floors above and below where the fire occurred have to be placed elsewhere.

“Deputy Fire Marshal will conduct his investigation and once he’s happy with what he’s decided then we will return the building back over to management,” said Besette.

Crews were still present at the scene several hours after the fire was distinguished. The Fire Marshal was on scene at the time with an ongoing investigation.
