Cass County Highway Department Releases 2025 List of Construction Projects

CASS COUNTY, N.D. (KVRR) — The Cass County Highway Department has started its work on a list of projects from a five-year project plan.
“It’ll be a busy year, we have a lot of road and bridge projects coming. We have a pretty big grading project out by Tower City in between Tower City and Buffalo on County Road 10 about an $8 million project,” said Kyle Litchy, Cass County Engineer.
Contractors are currently working on replacing the bridge on County Road 10 near Tower City. The bridge hasn’t been rebuilt since the interstate was built.
The other projects for the year will soon start in the coming weeks. Projects include milling and asphalt overlay of two sections of County Road 26, asphalt resurfacing of County Road 16, grading and subgrade repair of County Road 34, and culvert lining of County Roads 10, 16, and 81.
“Every four years we have a strength test done on our roads and it gives us a really good idea of what the road is like underneath the asphalt and how strong it is. You know obviously we can see with our eyes what it looks like, but to know what it’s like underneath the asphalt and how strong it is. It kind of gives us a heads up like hey this road might be falling apart in the next few years,” said Litchy.
Funding for the projects have come from federal, local, and grants. The plan currently shows the estimates for both projects range to about $24 million.
“We’ve tried for flex funding, flex grant funding ourselves and we have gotten a few other grant types, but we’ll see what happens here. There should be another round of those flex funds coming here in the next few months,” said Litchy.
The current five-year plan will be updated annually and will be reviewed in June.
