Kohler Mitchell 041725

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KVRR/NEWSDAKOTA) — A cybertip from a service provider about questionable content on its servers results in the arrest of 49-year-old Mitchell Kohler of Valley City.

The investigation determined that Kohler had child sexual abuse material, including some computer-generated images.

He has been charged with five counts of possession of certain materials prohibited.

During an interview, police say Kohler said he digitally altered images to resemble minors.

There is no indication that any local children were physically harmed, and investigators have not identified any specific victims in the altered materials.

North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Valley City Police Department conducted the investigation.

Valley City Public School District put out a statement stating that they want to reassure families and staff that there is no indication that any students from our schools have been identified as victims in this investigation.

They also want to raise awareness of the growing use of artificial intelligence in creating manipulated images and videos also known as deepfakes.
