FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Construction of the terminal expansion project is well underway. And on Wednesday morning, Senator John Hoeven and others toured the progress that has been made.

“This is going to have all the latest greatest things and restaurants. But really you know everything that you see in the very best airports. So this is a real credit to Shawn and the Fargo Airport Authority. These guys have done an incredible job,” said Sen. Hoeven.

So far, the nearly $200 million construction project is on schedule. With the project in the construction phase for nearly a year. Sen. Hoeven is working to allocate $31 million from federal funds, adding to the additional $40 million he has provided.

“There’s a $120 million generational project request before the state legislature pass the senate unanimously. There’s $60 million for Fargo, $30 million for Grand Forks, and $30 million for Dickinson. And a conference committee is meeting sometime this week to flush out the details,” said Shawn Dobberstein, Executive Director at Hector International Airport.

The airport will be expanded by an additional 73,000 square feet, adding four more gates. And starting in August, passengers will be able to park their vehicles in the new parking ramp that will have 972 parking spaces available.

“This is a regional hub for North Dakota and Minnesota, South Dakota don’t like to admit it, but South Dakota too. No kidding, aside a regional hub, huge traffic and growing. I think 56,000 just in January set a record. So it’s not only big enrollment but growing,” said Sen. Hoeven.

The project is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2027.
