National Independent Bookstore Day Celebrated in Roberts Alley
Ferguson Books pulled out all the stops to encourage people to support local businesses.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Book lovers turned out for a special occasion aimed at keeping their money in the local economy.
Saturday was Independent Bookstore Day in the U.S., and Ferguson Books located in Roberts Alley celebrated the occasion accordingly.
There were prize giveaways, like gift certificates to KingPinz, and author Lisa Gurine stopped by for a book signing.
Owner Dane Ferguson says that being an independent bookseller allows them to forge a real connection with their customer base.
“We need to make sure that we’re there for the customers – engaging them, asking them what they want, supporting the titles they want to see on the shelves,” he said.
“Because that’s our competitive advantage that we have as small, nimble, local businesses.”
Ferguson says he understands that all of us need to shop from stores like Amazon at some point but encourages people to try and limit that and keep your money local as much as possible.
