Bike Rodeo for Safety and Activity
The first event of its kind was held in front of the Fargo Cass Public Health building.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Children got to take advantage of the good weather on Saturday – and learned some valuable bike skills in the process.
The parking lot outside Fargo Cass Public Health on 25th Street hosted a bike rodeo!
And yes, before you ask, it was their first one.
The free event was open to cyclists up to the age of 12, who got to ride through a carefully officiated course.
“I’m callin’ ’em super striders because they’re just striding along, but some are pedaling and braking,” said Justin Kristan. He’s the director of Bike Walk North Dakota, who came up with the idea for the rodeo.
“They love it,” he said. “They can go through as many times as they want, and it’s a free event – certainly family friendly.”
They learned about important facets of biking, such as proper braking technique and giving other riders space.
Those overseeing the rodeo said they love that they get to encourage physical activity and teach bike safety at the same time.
“Taking advantage of a beautiful day like this and just being outside and moving is super good for your mood,” explained Fargo Cass Public Health director Jen Faul.
Lots of other folks set up in the parking lot.
Fargo Fire and EMS were giving tours of their vehicles, a bike mechanic was there to perform necessary repairs – and there was a food truck in case anyone got hungry.
