Polk County Authorities Warn of Text Scam
They say they have nothing to do with the bogus request for toll payments.
POLK COUNTY, MN – Polk County authorities are warning residents to be wary of a scam where people are being threatened over supposed unpaid tolls.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a report today, May 16, regarding the toll enforcement scam.
It came in the form of a text message, which says, in part,
“As of today, your tolls are still unpaid. If you still don’t pay your tolls tomorrow, you will face the following consequences:
The DMV will suspend your vehicle You will face legal action and damage to your credit You may be considered an illegal driver.”
It then gives you a link to click on to pay those alleged tolls.
Polk County urges you not to click on the link or call the phone number – which begins with a +63, which is the phone code for the Philippines.
