Southern Poverty Law Center States Hate Groups Have Declined In The Past Year
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Hate and anti-government groups operating in the last year have decreased by five percent, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
They have collected data since 2000.
Over the past year, topics of anti-DEI, LGBT, and immigration have been in the spotlight.
In North Dakota, there are six reported anti-government and hate groups.
The two reported in Williams and Ward counties are deemed anti-government groups, and the four others are deemed hate groups.
There is one hate group reported in the Fargo area.
“If you don’t come into contact with African Americans, you don’t come into contact with Latino Americans or immigrant groups you have this group thought of the other. And then when you have a catastrophe or the lack of resources, you begin to blame the other group. And then demonize the other group,” said Gerald Griggs, President of NAACP in Atlanta Chapter.
Every year, more than 200,000 people are estimated to be victims of hate crimes.
