Cell phone falls off airplane, setting off crash alarm at Moorhead Airport
MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – A cell phone with a crash detection feature fell off an airplane that was taxiing at the Moorhead Municipal Airport, setting off an alarm that sent emergency crews scrambling to the airport Friday morning.
Moorhead firefighters, police and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to the phone-activated alarm at around 9:50 a.m.
First responders say the pilot apparently left the phone on the outside of the aircraft and the phone fell to the ground while the plane was taxiing for takeoff.
Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting says after searching the area for several minutes, the phone was found on a taxiway.
