Three finalists named for Fargo Fire Chief

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) — Three finalists have been named for the Fargo Fire Chief.

They were selected from 15 applicants by a hiring committee.

The finalists are Fargo Fire Division Chiefs Tim Binfet and Craig Nelson, and Grand Forks Fire Chief Gary Lorenz.

Binfet is a 26-year veteran of the Fargo Fire Department. Lorenz has been Grand Forks Fire Chief since 2018.  Nelson has been a firefighter since 2001, first with the Shakopee Fire Department before moving to Fargo.

There will be an open house event on Wednesday, May 28, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at City Hall to meet the three finalists.

A final decision will be made by the city commission.

Former Chief Steve Dirksen retired May 16.
