Great Plains Food Bank Future Federal Funds Uncertain But Programs Still Running

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Federal cuts to food programs are leaving food pantries like Great Plains Food Bank in Fargo uncertain about future funding.

Earlier this year, Great Plains announced it had lost about $1.3 million in funding and food.

The food bank then shifted avenues on where they received fresh produce and meat.

But the wait for the vote on the budget reconciliation bill has left the food bank uncertain about its future programs.

“We’re watching that closely, we’re urging our lawmakers to consider on the Senate side what this impact could have. They’re looking at cuts to the SNAP program and they’re looking at cuts to the CSFP, which is our senior food box program. And while that won’t directly impact us as our operations, it will impact the programs that we are able to offer,” said Darby Njos, spokesperson for Great Plains Food Bank.

In 2024, Great Plains Food Bank served over 800 seniors with the Commodity Supplemental Food Program.
