Fargo Davies Eyes First Baseball State Title

FRESH OFF AN EASTERN DAKOTA CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP, THE EAGLES HAVE ONE MORE TITLE TO WIN THIS SEASON.

FARGO (KVRR) –The Class A baseball State Tournament begins Thursday, May 29, at Kraft Field in Grand Forks. Four Eastern Dakota Conference teams will battle for a State Title. The favorite from the East: this season’s EDC champion Fargo Davies.

Entering the EDC tournament as the 1-seed, the Eagles continued their dominance in the tournament to capture the crown.

Wyatt Kosidowski dominated on the hill, and Malachi Werremeyer drove in the lone Davies run for a 1-0 victory over West Fargo Sheyenne.

“It means a lot,” said Kosidowski after the win. “I mean, the boys have grinded all season. We knew it was going to be a tough season. We’re going to have a target on our back and it just felt good coming out on top in the EDC. So yeah, it felt great.”

“It feels good,” said head coach Hans Anderson. “I mean, you’re happy for the kids and, you know, we executed and came through. Now we see what happens next week.”

After a dominant season up to this point (25-5 overall record, 20-2 EDC points record), the Eagles focus now shifts to the State Tournament.

“Keep doing what we’re doing,” said Kosidowski. “I mean, take it one game at a time and, you know, keep pressure on, keep our bats rolling. [We have] good offense, so just keep it running.”

Coach Anderson added, “This year was a little strange. I didn’t know what we were going to get because we lost some pitching last year, but guys have really stepped up and we told them right away with preseason, we were number two, I think, and we have the target on our back. The kids have stepped up. They’ve embraced it. Now we got to go take care of business next week too.”

The Eagles start their tournament run taking on the West 4-seed, Jamestown.

The other East Region teams in the field are West Fargo Sheyenne (East 2-seed), West Fargo Horace (East 3-seed) and Fargo South (East 4-seed).

The tournament runs Thursday, May 29, through Saturday, May 31. All games at Kraft Field in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

KVRR will show highlights and updates from the tournament during our broadcasts and social media pages.
