Fargo Davies Girl’s Soccer Eyes Repeat

FARGO DAVIES WON THE STATE TITLE LAST SEASON OVER MINOT; NOW THE QUEST FOR A REPEAT BEGINS.

FARGO (KVRR) – Entering the 2024 soccer season, Fargo Davies had the goal of winning a State Championship. Two of the previous four seasons they fell just one game short to Minot. The Eagles achieved their goal with a 2-1 win and now they begin their quest to repeat.

The Eagles enter the State Tournament as the 2-seed out of the East. With a 10-2-2 record this year, Davies has continued their winning tradition. Since 2011, the Eagles have made the State tournament every season (excluding the Covid year 2020). They have been in the State title game two straight years.

After winning their fourth state title a season ago, and first since 2018, they are ready to begin their quest to repeat.

“You know, just enjoy each game,” said junior Quinn Skari on the team’s mindset entering State. “We know each game is going to be harder, but just have fun. Go out and play as a group.”

As for the opportunity to repeat as champs, Skari says, “I mean, I just have a lot of fun with my teammates, and we have a lot of fun together. So, yeah, it would mean a lot.”

Head Coach Nick Christianson added, “After having a successful last couple of years and getting to state championship games, finally getting over that hump in Minot last spring, we just knew that teams were going to come at us [this season]. We knew the EDC was going to be really competitive. I think the state tournament is going to be up for grabs for anybody. I’ve told the girls what we need to do is just take care of what we can take care of and go out there and prove it again.”

The Eagles start their tournament run taking on the 3rd seed from the West, Jamestown.

The other East Region teams in the field are: Grand Forks Red River (East 1-seed), Shanley (East 3-seed), and Grand Forks Central (East 4-seed).

The entire tournament will be played at West Fargo Sheyenne High School starting on Thursday, May 29, and finishing Saturday, May 31.
