Great Plains Food Bank Receives Donation of Nearly 40,000 Pounds of Mac and Cheese

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — It was a cheesy dream for the Great Plains Food Bank as nearly 40,000 pounds of macaroni and cheese were donated by Land O’Lakes.

The macaroni will be available to Great Plains 196 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters across North Dakota and Clay County, Minnesota.

The donation comes at a time when many food pantries’ demands for food from families and students who are out of school have risen.

A Land O’Lakes member and owner of Valley United Cooperative made a $500 donation to the Great Plains Food Bank in support of the initiative.

“This donation of macaroni and cheese is more than just food it’s more than just a number of pounds, which is 40,000 pounds by the way. That’s twenty pallets if you can’t imagine what 40,000 pounds looks like. It was a full truckload. And so it’s more than just that it’s more meals for our neighbors in need,” said Darby Njos, Spokesperson for Great Plains Food Bank.

A portion of the macaroni will be supplied to students’ families throughout the summer through the Great Plains Food Bank program.
