Hortmans and family dog to lie in state at Minnesota Capital

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KVRR) — Governor Tim Walz announced that Representative Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their dog Gilbert will lie in State on Friday, June 27th.
The Hortman’s and Gilbert were killed in a targeted attack at their home earlier this month. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were wounded in an attack at their home the same night.
Representative Hortman, a former DFL Speaker of the House, will be the first woman and one of fewer than 20 Minnesotans to lie in state at the capital.
The Capital Rotunda will be open to the public to pay their respects from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A private funeral will take place on Saturday.
