Fargo School Board to consider $45 million school on historic Horace Mann site

FARGO (KVRR) – The Fargo School Board on Tuesday will be asked to move forward with the early design and planning phases for a new elementary school on the current Horace Mann site.
According to school officials, the project would replace historic Horace Mann Elementary facility and bring together the Roosevelt and Madison attendance areas into one modern, centrally located school for grades K–5.
“We recognize the deep history and community connection to each of these schools. This memo is the beginning of a longer process centered around planning and building a shared vision for the future of education,” according to a Fargo School District memo.
“We believe this proposal provides an opportunity to thoughtfully align our facilities with our values.”
The memo says the project envisions the construction of a new, three-section (K–5) elementary school serving approximately 444 students.
The project would be located on the Horace Mann campus and once completed, would allow for the closure of the existing Roosevelt and Madison school buildings. The estimated cost of the project is $45 million.
Students attending Horace Mann would be temporarily moved to Washington, Roosevelt, or Madison during the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years.
