Two men who witnessed paraglider hit power line and fall into Red River talk to KVRR

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) — A paraglider had to be rescued Tuesday night after hitting a power line and crashing into the Red River in Grand Forks.

This video from Dusty Howlett shows the paraglider plumetting into the river.

Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched just before 9 P.M. to the area of Riverside Dam boat ramp.

Crews arrived to find the man in the river and he was not hurt.

“When I got down to the boat ramp, I saw his head poke out of the water, so I’m like real relieved and he was alert and waving to us and there were other people down there. We were all yelling to him and he was waving back,” said Nate Millard who witnessed the crash.

Howlett said, “Anyone that flies that sort of thing likes you know to take a little bit of risk and they like the adventure and the excitement and it could have been way worse.”

A rescue boat was launched, and crews were able to get the man to shore.
