Just weeks away from North Dakota raising speed limits to 80 MPH

“They will really start putting up the 80 mile-an-hour signs starting August 1, which is when the law goes into effect, and then it should all be completed on or before Friday, August 22. So the work should all be completed within three weeks.” Hoff said.
Hoff says the contractor will start work this month on foundations for some of the new signs.
There will be some exceptions to the higher speed limit where there are curves. The speed limit will not change in those locations. The current posted limits in Bismarck-Mandan and Fargo won’t change.
“The area through the Badlands has some tighter curves, also there’s some areas in Jamestown and Valley City that have some tighter curves. So we’re looking at retaining the speed limit to about 70 mph through those areas, along with some of the other urban areas in Dickinson and Grand Forks so we don’t raise those speed limits up to 80 through those communities.” Hoff said.
