Volunteers paint basketball court at Dike West

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Volunteers gathered at one of the basketball courts at Dike West Park, but instead of a basketball, they came with paint brushes and rollers.

The Fargo Park District is painting a mural on the basketball court nearest Fourth Street South.

The mural is in celebration of National Parks and Recreation Month.

Painters age eight and older were invited to help paint the mural from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The mural is paint-by-numbers style, to make it easier on the volunteers.

The park district is planning on doing two coats of paint as well as applying sealer so the mural will last for years to come.

After the mural is finished, they will repaint the court’s lines, so people can still play basketball on the court.

“So the final image is our Fargo Park District colors. So it just kind of referencing movement and play throughout our parks. Blues, greens, it’s a really beautiful, abstract piece,” said Fargo Park District Media Specialist Kylie Kanwischer.

The park district will celebrate the new mural with a showing of Space Jam: A New Legacy on July 23.
