Corgi Races Enrapture North Dakota Horse Park
The little guys took their turn on the track during horse race intermissions.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The North Dakota Horse Park is known for its races with creatures that have long, elegant legs – so they switched that up a bit on Saturday, inviting corgis to hit the dirt track.
The adorable pups raced in heats between the horse competitions.
The races were organized by Northern Corgis, who also brought 4 Luv of Dog out to the venue to showcase some adoptable pups.
Both track management and Northern Corgis say that there’s just something about this breed that excites spectators and dog lovers alike.
“It’s such a huge draw, sometimes we get more people here for the corgi races. The last 15 phone calls I’ve fielded – ‘Do you have horse racing? but is there corgi racing? And do they happen at the same time?'” laughed horse park general manager Hugh Drexler. “So, we have to explain that to them.”
“Well, look, it’s their energetic personality,” said Robert Stout of Northern Corgis when asked about their appeal.
“It’s how fun they are. They’re always smiling and happy dogs. You don’t meet too many mean, aggressive corgis – so I think that’s what it is.”
That’s not all for corgi racing at the track this summer.
On August 23, corgis will square off against wiener dogs in a short leg breed battle to see who’s the fastest.
