NDSU gets kids excited about STEM with summer camp

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Area school aged kids got a chance to ignite their passion for topics in STEM fields. It’s the beginning of week two of the camp.

Kids got the chance to expand their knowledge in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math by learning about the biology in our area, learning how to code computers and become DNA detectives.

In the Rockin’ Robots class, students were building a grabber that they can then use to grab a snack.

Builder Chase Swanson says, “When my mom said that I’d be starting this, I was really excited.”

“It’s really fun. You get to build robots and code them. Sometimes you might make mistakes, but you solve them at a point,” says Builder Aavin Kandel

Tressa Lura, Rockin’ Robots instructor, says, “It’s a really fun atmosphere know, in school, sometimes, they have to do things a certain way, or, you know, the teacher designs it. And here we just give them the opportunity. We give them the tools, and we give them the techniques, and they then get to use that creativity and invention, and be those engineers that they want to be when they’re older.”

The STEM camp is hosted annually by NDSU College of Engineering.
