Fargo Police hold news conference over ongoing investigations into multiple incidents
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Over the last two weeks, Fargo Police have responded to multiple incidents that have brought concerns from the public on their safety within the city. Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski has stated numerous times the city is safe, but the question still remains.
“We’re getting a lot of cooperation from our community. The city overall has enjoyed a lot of safety, that doesn’t mean there’s no crime, there’s no perfection, you know, in terms of crime. Our folks are out there every day diligently doing everything they can to prevent crime, respond to crime,” said Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski.
Since the month of August began, Fargo Police have responded to five violent crimes and one bank robbery. Over the weekend, police responded to a shooting in the area of 10th Street North and 6th Avenue North. A man was found on the scene with a gunshot wound and currently remains hospitalized. And on Monday, police responded to a report of a man stabbed.
“That bank robbery suspect, which I think he was in custody within under two hours, closer to an hour and a half, was largely due to the technology we’ve got. Many of these other cases benefit from that very same technology, but sometimes we don’t have all of the pieces that we look for the community to step up and help us out. That’s a big piece, it’s a team effort in terms of public safety,” said Zibolski.
Police have also been pressed on concerns of suspects’ previous history of violence and offenses. In the case of the Downtown Fargo shooting, the suspect, Tyrque Jones, was on unsupervised probation. Zibolski said that it’s an issue that they are addressing.
“In a lot of those instances, as you mention, if they’re not supervised and released, we probably don’t know they’re even here, and we can’t give them any attention. Some folks are going to come back and reintegrate fine, but some of them will not. Some of them will return to the criminal conduct that landed them there in the first place,” said Zibolski.
Police are still searching for Tyrque Jones, and are looking for a man in his twenties involved in a shooting on 6th Ave North. His identity is yet to be confirmed.
