West Fargo Rallies Around Family of Brooklyn Hansen

The benefit, held at the Silver Dollar Bar & Flying Pig Grill from 4 to 7 P.M. on August 17, was packed from the moment it began.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The parking lot was already full and the inside of the Silver Dollar Bar and Flying Pig Grill in West Fargo was already packed just minutes after the benefit for the family of Brooklyn Hansen began on August 17th.

“The West Fargo community has always been amazing at pulling together for people that we care about,” said Tammy Clemens, Brooklyn’s aunt. “I can’t thank people enough for all of the support, messages, prayers, everything that’s gone on.”

Team Brooklyn organized the benefit while Brooklyn’s parents, Bert and Amanda, remain by her side at the Fairview Children’s Hospital in the Twin Cities.

16-year-old Brooklyn lives with her family in West Fargo and attends Horace High School.

Sadly, her battles with mental health led to a crisis about three weeks ago that forced personnel to airlift her to the cities for medical care.

“She’s struggled for a while with some depression issues, and it just kind of got the best of her this time,” explained Clemens.

Sunday’s benefit featured a silent auction, meat raffles, and free will donations to raise money so that Bert and Amanda can continue giving Brooklyn their full support as she faces a long road to recovery.

Tammy, though, wants people to know that Brooklyn is defined by so much more than her struggles with depression.

“She’s an amazing girl. She’s beautiful, she’s full of life, she’s fun, she’s sweet, caring – she’s amazing,” she said.

If you would like to donate to the family, Amanda’s Venmo code is @AMANDA-Hansen-156. You can also buy apparel here, and get updates on Brooklyn’s condition on her CaringBridge page.

Also, if you are struggling with mental health, you are not alone, and there are resources you can turn to for help. A crucial one is the National Mental Health hotline at 866-903-3787.
