Happy Hooligans Receive 24th Air and Space Force Outstanding Unit Award

The 119th Wing, North Dakota Air National Guard is back on top after not having won the award since 2020.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The 119th Wing North Dakota Air National Guard is certainly no stranger to recognition.

They’d won the Air and Space Force Outstanding Unit Award, or ASFOUA, 23 times in the past.

But after having not claimed the honor since 2020 – being recognized again sure felt great.

“Take a moment to soak this in – you’ve earned it,” said Col. Christopher Domitrovich, 119th Wing commander.

The Happy Hooligans say that they’re able to earn the ASFOUA so consistently because they pride themselves in establishing a culture of success.

Brigadier General Mitch Johnson placed the streamer representing the award on the 119th Wing’s colors and commended the Hooligan Airmen for their exceptional service and mission accomplishment.

“These awards are a testament to every 119th airman’s commitment and passion for living the Hooligan way. Thank you for your dedication and hard work,” said Johnson.

After the ceremony on the morning of September 6, there was time to celebrate the families and loved ones of those who serve, with the Air National Guard’s focus remaining on bringing the Hooligans serving overseas back to North Dakota.

This honor comes on the heels of more good news for the Hooligans, as it was just announced in July that a new headquarters will be built for the airmen.

That construction is expected to begin in 2027.
