FARGO (KFGO) – Work on the 32nd Avenue project in south Fargo is close to wrapping up.

City Design and Construction Division Engineer Jason Leonard said the road will likely open Saturday. Work on the $18 million project began in mid-April. Leonard said the major construction was between 15th and 23rd Streets.

“Storm sewer-trunk main that will eventually to the Red River, we put in new water mains through this corridor as well as improved or replaced the sanitary sewer system along this corridor and then also, brand new pavement, sidewalks, bike trails, street lights, traffic signals, so very comprehensive project reconstruction, Leonard said.

The general contractor is Dakota Underground.

Leonard said with the project completed about a month ahead of schedule, the company will receive a $150,000 bonus. The city commission approved the incentive package when the contract was awarded.

“We (city) find it successful and kind of a win win, obviously Dakota Underground is going to get the benefit of getting the incentive, but as well, we believe the city of Fargo as a whole benefits for that as well,” added Leonard.

The final segment of the project will be done next year when a new lift station will be completed. That will mean construction from 15th Street South to the river.
