FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The Northern Plains Botanic Garden focused on a different kind of vegetation this Saturday – straw.

That’s because it was the fifth annual Scarecrows in the Garden event on September 13.

This fundraiser for the Botanic Garden featured everything from a scavenger hunt to a fall market and food from Heart-N-Soul Community Cafe.

Admission was free, but donations and sales from the market make up an important component of the garden’s funding.

“We usually bring in a couple thousand from this event, and that goes towards different things each year,” explained Maddy Boecker, one of the event organizers. “This year we’re fundraising for some security – additional security measures – maybe even internet, that kind of thing. Infrastructure.”

The event began at 10 in the morning and ran until 4 in the afternoon.
