Fargo Police issued over 200 traffic citations for traffic enforcement campaign

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — From July 1 to August 4, law enforcement agencies across the state participated in the Vision Zero, ‘Speeding Slows You Down’ campaign. During the enforcement, a total of 5,065 citations were issued.

“Any officers who signed up to work that initiative had to team up with our traffic safety team members to go out and work the areas that they have identified as our high-speed areas with the dangerous driving,” said Capt. Travis Moser, Fargo Police.

During the campaign, eight officers signed up to participate in the campaign alongside the six officers in the traffic safety unit and the traffic enforcement team. Several areas they were assigned to included 19th Ave N, 12th Ave bridge, 45th St, and others.

During their enforcement, there were a total of 204 traffic stops conducted, 243 citations were issued, 15 arrests, and 29 written warnings. Of the 243 citations, 169 were speed-related.

“As the city grows, and as the city becomes a more desirable place for people to come to from other communities, we have more motorists on the road. And if you look at the geographical areas of Fargo from the northern city limits to the southern city limits, that’s a lot of area for you know six traffic safety officers to cover on a daily basis,” said Moser.

From this campaign, Moser said that this had shown the department that there is a need for more officers in the traffic safety unit.

“We really want to target the bad actors, the ones who are out there driving very egregious, very dangerous. And ultimately, not just putting the safety, but the lives of other Fargo residents or people from other communities who are here, we just don’t want those high speeds and that dangerous driving to be catastrophic for a family,” said Moser.
