FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The school year may be back in full swing, but there are still plenty of extracurricular activities aimed at getting children interested in academics – the sciences, to be specific.

That includes the BIG Event – held last week at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds, and The Lab, a special biology exhibition that took place at Rheault Farm.

The Fargo Park District teamed up with the Concordia Science Academy to create interactive exhibits and show off exotic animals.

Everyone involved said they’re looking to build up enthusiasm about STEM for kids in the range of 7 to 12 years old.

“We figured we’d partner with Concordia Science Academy and have a fun day where people can come out to the farm and learn all sorts of different things,” explained Amanda Lamp with the Park District, while Dr. Graeme Wyllie from Concordia added, “What we’re trying to do is bring science to the community in a way that’s accessible, educational, and entertaining.”

One of the Concordia students involved with the animal exhibitions said, “I think it’s really rewarding to see everyone’s excitement – like ‘Oh, I can actually do science?’ – so it’s nice to see that little light in their eyes.”
