FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – A prominent official for the city of Fargo is calling it a career after over two decades in his position.

Steve Sprague, Fargo City Auditor, confirmed that he will be retiring after that news was brought up during a Liquor Control Board meeting on October 15.

Sprague began serving as Auditor in December of 1999 and has seen a lot of population growth and technological advancement during his tenure.

At that Liquor Control Board meeting, city commissioner Dave Piepkorn thanked Sprague for his service.

Sprague says that meant a lot to him, and he’s just thankful to have been a part of city government for just about 26 years.

“The stock we’re from, it’s always hard to take compliments,” said Sprague, “but just to have Dave say those things, it was very nice of him.”

He added, “I just really appreciate the opportunity the city of Fargo gave me to serve the public and the residents.”

Sprague and his wife will now retire to a farmstead near Harvey to enjoy some much-deserved peace and quiet.

His last day on the job will be November 7.
