Moorhead Police offering vacation house checks

MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The Moorhead Police Department is offering security checks at homes of people who leave town on vacation, for an extended period of time, or travel south for the winter.

Officers and volunteers will conduct the checks at your request. Fill out a request online or call 218-299-5143 and leave a message with your contact information.

When preparing for an extended leave from your home, Moorhead Police say it’s also a good idea to stop mail delivery and leave lights on throughout the house at various times using timers.

In the winter, have someone take care of snow removal, or have a neighbor drive up and down your driveway to leave tracks after a fresh snowfall.

Police say do not leave keys hidden outside your home, but instead leave a key with a trusted neighbor, friend or family member.
