Update: West Fargo man accused of threatening Trump appears in federal court

Andrew Sandvik

FARGO (KVRR) – A West Fargo man accused of threatening President Trump and other federal officials made his first appearance in federal court Friday.

U.S. Attorney Nick Chase says 47-year-old Andrew Sandvik is charged with Influencing a Federal Official by Threat.

The complaint says that Sandvik made several online social media posts containing threats towards Trump and posts directed toward FBI Director Kash Patel and the Director of the Secret Service.

Sandvik was taken into custody Thursday at 1531 5th Ave. S. in Fargo.

Fargo Police and the FBI began investigating the case on September 4, 2025.

“This investigation is an incredible federal, state, and local law enforcement partnership, working together to investigate and safely arrest someone who allegedly expressed a willingness to commit extreme violence,” Chase said.

“Sandvik made threats against President Donald J. Trump, FBI Director Kash Patel, local law enforcement officers and the U.S. military. Death threats and violent, inflammatory rhetoric have no place in our society,” according to FBI Minneapolis Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston, Sr.

“Threats against federal officials, whether they are made online or in person, will result in a swift response by the FBI.”

A judge ordered Sandvik to remain in jail until a custody hearing is held next Thursday.

If convicted, Sandvik faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
