$9+ Box of Cereal Causes Shoppers to Question Rising Prices

Those representing farmers say that their side is certainly not the one making significant profit.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – “One of the things that was brought out was the 9 dollar and 29 cent box of Wheaties,” said Dan Wogsland, former executive director of the North Dakota Grain Growers Association. “Out of that 9 dollars and 29 cents, only 17 cents goes to the farmer.”

The price of that cereal is sure turning the heads of Hornbachers’ shoppers.

Many of these rising costs are forcing stores to raise their prices.

Especially those not owned by large corporations – like Mexican specialty market La Unica.

Owner Amy Espinoza says she’s definitely heard a few rumblings from her customer base.

“We definitely have plenty of customers upset with certain prices on certain products,” she said. “The best I can do is continue to try and find other providers that can maybe get it to me cheaper and then I can pass those savings onto the customers.”

One place shoppers may find some relief is at Target.

The retailer says it’s lowering the prices of 3,000 items as people try to stretch their budgets going into the holidays.
