ST. PAUL, Minn. (KVRR) — The Minnesota BCA identifies the man who died during a use-of-force incident in Clearwater County as Dennis Hoie, 75, of Bagley.

On November 13, Clearwater County Deputy Noah Hallman recognized Hoie at a local gas station for having a felony warrant for his arrest. He fled authorities and a pursuit started.

Hoie drove through multiple yards before law enforcement was able to get his vehicle stopped.

Hoie fired a flare gun towards deputies. Hallman then fired his weapon in return.

Life saving measures were performed, but Hoie died at the scene.

Hallman sustained a minor injury and has been placed on critical incident leave.

Another deputy sustained a graze injury to his head that did not require medical attention.
