MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – Police have issued a shelter-in-place notification for a south Moorhead neighborhood.

Several police officers were called to the scene in the area of 20th St. & 18th Ave.

Police say an officer was conducting a follow-up in the 1800 block of 20th St. S. As the officer approached the building, he heard what sounded like a gunshot and immediately called for backup.

Out of an abundance of caution, a large police presence was deployed to the area.

Officers used a drone and a BearCat vehicle to safely assess the situation.

A shelter-in-place notification was issued for the area between 12th Ave. S. and 24th Ave. S., from 14th St. to 26th St., as a precaution while officers continue the investigation.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
