Suspect, deputies identified in use-of-force incident in rural Walker

WALKER, Minn. (KVRR) — A man who fled from officers in rural Walker, Minnesota has been identified.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office says 37-year-old James Weyaus, of Onigum died during a Nov. 16 use-of-force incident in Turtle Lake Township.
Cass County Sheriff’s Office says they got a 911 call after the caller heard shots fired.
Deputies arrived and tried to make contact with a man who was walking in the 8000 block of Onigum Road Northwest but he fled on foot.
Cass County Deputy Kaleb Cherne and Deputy David Donner chased Weyaus and exchanged gunfire with him.
Deputy Cherne was shot in his upper right leg and was flown by helicopter to Fargo.
Deputy Donner hit Weyaus and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Body worn cameras captured portions of the incident.
