Discovery Middle School mourns tragic loss of 8th grade student

Jemimah Audu

Fargo, N.D. (KVRR) – “I had multiple cards where children thanked the parents for raising such a wonderful daughter.”

Discovery Middle School students and staff, as well as the entire community are grieving today after the tragic death of a student.

On Friday, 8th grader Jemimah Audu died after collapsing during a basketball game.

The school has had extra support staff on site this week to help students and staff process the loss, including writing over 200 cards to Jemimah’s family.

And they say it has shown just how much Jemimah meant to the Discovery community.

“Laughing and joking, and just always had a very positive attitude. If someone was feeling sad or moody, as middle schoolers tend to do from time to time, she was just there lifting them up,” Discovery Principal Amy Herrick said.

Herrick says they will still have extra support staff when students return from the break next week.

There is a fundraiser to help the family cover funeral expenses. You can find a link HERE.
