UPDATE: 88-year-old man dead after McLean County crash identified as North Dakota entertainer

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is determining whether or not to press charges against the driver of the other vehicle.

MCLEAN CO., N.D. (KVRR 8PM 11/30/25 UPDATE) — Family members have identified the victim of a fatal crash on Friday afternoon as 88-year-old Gordy Lindquist.

He was known affectionately as “Crazy Fingers” for his piano playing skills and was a mainstay at the annual Norsk Hostfest celebration in Minot.

According to social media posts, Lindquist spent 50 years teaching music in Max, Westhope, California and at Dakota College in Bottienau.

He grew up on a farm near Max, North Dakota and was one of 10 children.

His last performance was Thursday night in Garrison at Piccadilly Square for The Dickens Festival.

In their Facebook post they wrote, “Our heart goes out to his family, his friends, and to everyone who was lucky enough to experience Gordy’s talent and warmth. Thank you for sharing him with all of us, and with the world, 88 years.”

McLEAN COUNTY, N.D. (KVRR) – A T-bone crash at the intersection of Highway 83 & Highway 37 in McLean County has claimed the life of one man while injuring another individual.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says that just before 5 P.M. on November 28, a Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Highway 37. When it entered the intersection of 37 and 83, a Hyundai Santa Cruz traveling southbound struck it on the driver’s side.

The driver of that Camry was an 88-year-old man from Bottineau. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Santa Cruz was a 32-year-old woman from Tioga.  She was wearing a seatbelt, sustained injuries, and was taken to CHI St. Alexius in Garrison for treatment. NDHP has not yet decided whether or not she will face criminal charges.
