Homeless man sentenced in Grand Forks beating death

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR-KFGO) – A man convicted of beating another man to death in Grand Forks has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
In August, Donald Bartlette was found guilty of manslaughter in the October 2024 death of Anthony Kiehl. He was given credit for 409 days already served in jail.
Court records say Kiehl suffered multiple injuries to his head and face. Bartlette told another man living in the apartment building that Kiehl came at him with a knife and he had to beat him up. Bartlette told investigators that Kiehl attacked him and he was defending himself.
Kiehl was found unresponsive and died later at Altru Hospital.
Police say they recovered a knife in a search of Kiehl’s apartment and two wooden legs of a coffee table that showed the presence of blood.
Another man, Nicholas Wride-Arnold, was arrested in connection to the case. He pleaded guilty to refusal to halt, obstruction of a government function and tampering with physical evidence. He was sentenced to one year of probation.
The apartment building, on Cherry Street where the incident took place, is owned by the Grand Forks Housing Authority.
