Pursuit in Grand Forks County Ends in Possible Suicide

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has not yet released any information regarding the driver who appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) – A driver in Grand Forks County is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a pursuit in the early evening of January 2.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says that they received reports of an erratic driver just after 5:30 P.M. A trooper was soon able to locate the vehicle in question at mile marker 138 on I-29.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled the scene, after which the trooper pursued the vehicle for about a mile until the vehicle became stuck in the median. When authorities approached, they discovered the driver deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

I-29 was shut down at 6:00 P.M. and reopened to one lane at 6:20 P.M. NDHP says that no law enforcement officers discharged their firearms during this incident. It is still under investigation.
