WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Young archers from the F-M area strung up their bows this weekend in the name of friendly competition – and also for the chance to win some scholarship money.

The Frozen 600 is part of the National Archery Scholarship tour, sponsored by the Easton Foundation.

28 cities across the country host events and submit their results – then the top 8 finishers in each category receive a scholarship allotment.

This is the third year that Fargo has participated, with the shooting organized by the Sandhills Archery Club in West Fargo.

Organizers say it’s a great way to kick off the indoor season – with a little extra incentive.

“They’re very driven to come out,” said Mike Jeanotte, executive director of the North Dakota Archery Alliance. “We have some that will practice 4, 5, 6 days a week, just to put in their time for events like this. They want to be competitive.”

97 archers signed up for the competition.

Last year, the Easton Foundation gave out a total of $84,000 in scholarship dollars.
