Man dies in house fire near Ulen, Minnesota

ULEN, Minn. (KVRR) — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Ulen Fire Department responded to this residence early this morning for a reported structure fire.
“So about 10:14 am emergency personnel were dispatched to a report of a structure fire here. We were informed that there was one individual that was in the house. There was a deputy that arrived on scene shortly after the call. He did enter the house, but he had to leave the residence just due to the heavy amount of smoke starting to form inside,” said Sheriff Mark Empting, Clay County Sheriff.
The reported fire took place five miles west of Ulen on 160th Avenue North. Sanford Ambulance, Airmed, the Salvation Army, and the American Red Cross all responded.
“We received a page from the 911 center. We were told that it is just a structure fire and that we need to provide assistance in any way that we can for both first responders and any survivors or anyone that’s on scene of the incident,” said Andrew Lynch, Team Lead for Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services Team
As the fire was being put out, a team searched the residence. Firefighters found the man in his bedroom and was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries from the fire.
“We believe it started in one of the bedrooms in the residence, and they are going to work on an investigation on that. The state fire marshal was contacted, and they are on the way to assist with the investigation,” said Empting.
The identity of the victim has not been released, but may be at a later time.
