Grand Forks teen sentenced in attempted murder case

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR-KFGO) – One of two teens charged in an attempted murder case in Grand Forks has been sentenced.

Mason Allery was charged as an adult and is sentenced to serve 10 years. The sentencing order notes he must complete and obtain a high school diploma before his release.

He was convicted on five counts of attempted murder, one count of terrorizing, criminal mischief and unlawful possession of a handgun. Four reckless endangerment charges were dismissed.

Allery, who was 16-years-old at the time of the shooting last January, and Walker Poitra, were both charged in the case.

Grand Forks Police say Allery and Poitra fired several rounds into a car with five juveniles inside. It happened in the parking lot of the Ramada in Grand Forks.

Two people were shot and taken to Altru hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Allery and Poitra ran from the scene, but were arrested a short time later.

Poitra is charged with 13 counts in the case, including five counts of attempted murder, terrorizing, reckless endangerment, and minor in possession of a firearm.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in April.
